All-New Jaguar XJ

Performance and Emissions

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
New 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine
• Two power outputs
– AJ-V6D Gen III S – 275PS/600Nm
– AJ-V6D Gen III – 240PS/500Nm

TURBOCHARGER BENEFITS
Single-turbo allows dramatically improved low engine-speed torque and response.
• Enables use of taller gearing for enhanced fuel economy and CO2 emissions with impressive driveability
• 61% more torque at 1500rpm
• Secondary turbo operation results in significant increase in engine power output
• 32% more power at 4000rpm

DYNAMIC RESPONSE
• Dramatic increase in responsiveness at low engine speeds
• Significant reduction in time to reach maximum torque
– Peak rate of climb equivalent to 1000Nm per second
– Five times more responsive than acclaimed AJ-V6D 2.7
• Imperceptible turbo-lag compared to other diesel engines

EMISSIONS
The new water-cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system reduces both pumping losses and emissions of NOX by regulating exhaust gas temperatures, is more efficient and consumes less power than the system used in the previous
2.7-litre unit.

EGR SYSTEM AT START-UP
The AJ-V6D Gen III engine uses its EGR system to allow faster engine warm-up from start-up by recycling hot exhaust gasses into the combustion chambers ensuring a further reduction in engine emissions.

The valves that allow exhaust gasses to bypass the EGR's cooling system (see 'BYPASS PHASE' on EGR animation) are located on the 'hot side' of the engine nearest the exhaust manifolds; these valves never cool while the engine is running, so there is no condensation of combustion deposits, which occurs on engines fitted with 'cold side' valves, hence the EGR system always works at maximum efficiency.

EGR COOLING SYSTEM
To enhance engine performance at all other times, the EGR's cooling system is activated once the engine is at optimum working temperature. In this mode, the bypass valves close and exhaust gasses are cooled before returning to the combustion chambers (click 'NEXT' on EGR animation to illustrate), providing the ideal mix of cooled exhaust gas and charged air to optimise engine efficiency.
